CEGAL is the Spanish Booksellers Association. It brings together 1,600 bookstores throughout Spain. CEGAL was created in 1978. The defense of the interests of booksellers is among its purposes. Currently, one of CEGAL's challenges is to contribute to the cultural enrichment of Spanish society through an efficient dissemination of the book. The Confederation provides special support to the small and medium independent bookstore, guarantors of cultural and ideological diversity.
To these objectives is added the need to face the new challenges of a changing sector, for which CEGAL is committed to the modernization of bookshop structures and the continuous training of its members. For this, it offers services that allow members to access training seminars, advice on issues related to the bookselling industry, promotional materials, among other advantages.
CEGAL also carries out an important task of exchange with the Public Administrations in defense of the bookselling sector.
