The Association was created in 1978. The defense of the interests of booksellers still remains one of its core purposes. Currently, one of CEGAL's challenges is to contribute to the cultural enrichment of Spanish society through an efficient dissemination of books. The Association provides special support to the small- and medium-sized independent bookstores, guarantors of cultural and ideological diversity.


To these objectives, the Association is face new challenges of a changing sector, for which CEGAL is committed to the modernisation of bookshop structures and the continuous training of its members. For this, it offers services that allow members to access training seminars, advice on issues related to the bookselling industry, promotional materials, among others.


CEGAL also carries out an important task of exchange with the Public Administrations in defense of the bookselling sector.
