The Canadian Independent Booksellers Association (CIBA) was founded in 2020 to offer targeted and responsive support to independent booksellers across Canada. It represents more than 135 establishing and prospective booksellers and is supported by more than 75 publishers, distributors, NGOs, and industry professionals.
CIBA’s strategic objectives include professional development, networking and knowledge-sharing, awareness and marketing, advocacy, and organizational health. It’s flagship programs include its ongoing Lectures & Labs series, Canadian Independent Bookstore Day, and indiebookstores.ca, a public-facing web hub where readers can find books, peruse curated recommendations and bestseller lists, and connect with their nearest indies to shop.
Indie bookstores are an invaluable part of Canadian culture. In cities and towns across Canada, these stores are intrinsic to the fabric of their communities, convenors of important conversations, and contributors to vibrant local economies. It is CIBA’s mission to celebrate and sustain these important businesses for the benefit of all Canadians.
